Angela Yaa Oyafunmike carries a MA in Urban Ministry and a concentration in Psychopathology in Theological Perspective; is an Ordained Non-Denominational Minister and an Onifa in New African Vodun. She further serves as an Herbal Health & Wellness Coach at Harmony Holistic, as well as Co-Founder and Operations Director at Iwa Pele Metaphysical Institute where she is specifically overseeing the Diaspora Return Project to Alkebulan. An often sought after Lecturer and Conference Facilitator who speaks on all things Relationships and Empowerment for the Woman of African decent.
Further to her credit, she is the Founder and Developer of Unapologetically Me which provides a "safe space" for Women of Africa and the Diaspora to speak and confer among themselves freely in the dialect, tone and energy of women living life in the unique experience of colonization and western culture. Passionately, she continues to teach Women of the Diaspora to walk in all dimensions of their Goddess Power in mind, body and spirit.
Her story went national in 2009 when the Wall Street Journal caught wind of the work she and her ministry were doing in the community, running a half page story after following her to Washington, DC to the Inauguration of President Barack Obama, along with three wards of the State of Illinois who won an essay contest sponsored by her ministry at the time. Being an abuse survivor and a teenage runaway definitely equipped her for the ministry in the streets she performed and the Family Care Ministry she so passionately administered.
She has served on the Leadership Board of the National Consortium of Black Women in Ministry (NCBWIM) Chicago Chapter, doing advocacy for victims of domestic violence; she is a workshop facilitator at Domestic Abuse Forums where she teaches over-comers to Unapologetically use their voices by first setting themselves free, as they facilitate the freeing of others.
When asked to summarize her journey she states, "I fondly remember how my grandmother used to tell me that many people will not read the Bible that I read, so if I wanted them to know what's in it (or any other book for that matter), I would have to LIVE it, as I would become the ONLY Bible some people will ever read. Never have truer words been spoken. I aspire to live my life as such so that when people meet, listen and observe me in action, they begin to see the extension of my faith in my walk, talk, grow and glow."
However, with all of that, she still believes her greatest accomplishment is her ministry of motherhood to her three outstanding children Curtis II, Aieko Marie and
Cameron Alexander; and by extension her ministry as Grandmother to the 9 Souls who affectionately call her BiBi.
